What Impact Means at Genius Lab

Students create something that has value beyond a grade.

The impact portfolio centers technology integration, entrepreneurship, project-based learning, student leadership, and real-world outcomes. Across the work, students use current tools to solve problems, research markets, develop ideas, communicate, create media, market events, build technology concepts, and prepare professional-level presentations.

Evidence standard: recent 2024–2026 case studies are shown separately from broader cumulative Genius Lab and long-term student impact data. That distinction prevents recent school-based work from being incorrectly presented as if every outcome came from a single Genius Lab contract or time period.

The Genius Lab Throughline

The work is not built around technology for technology’s sake. Students use technology, entrepreneurship, financial learning, leadership, and media to create value and make decisions. The intended result is greater agency, stronger communication, and visible evidence that students can solve problems and build.

Six examples of learning tied to authentic work.

1 • ASPIRA Business and Finance High School • 2024–2026

AI-Enhanced Entrepreneurship & Business Learning

Students used AI-supported research to investigate industries, customer problems, competitors, and market opportunities. They developed problem-solution statements, business-plan content, marketing strategies, and pitch language while being required to explain, revise, defend, and present their own decisions.

Evidence: AI became a tool for authentic entrepreneurship research and planning while student judgment and communication remained core outcomes.

2 • ASPIRA Entrepreneurship

Shark Tank-Style Student Business Pitch Competition

Students identified customer problems, shaped value propositions, built financial assumptions, conducted research, created pitch decks, and practiced persuasive speaking. An approximately 70-student participation pool advanced to 10 finalists for higher-level presentations and sponsored prizes.

Evidence: Entrepreneurship, math, marketing, technology, and public speaking were combined into one authentic assessment.

3 • Sports & Entertainment Marketing

Student-Run Sports Marketing & Event Operations

Students promoted school athletic events, supported ticket sales, worked on audience engagement and event operations, and applied classroom marketing to real deadlines and real audiences.

Evidence: The student-run initiative generated approximately $2,500 and gave students direct experience connecting marketing activity to revenue, audience behavior, teamwork, and execution.

4 • Film Studies & Media Production

Film, Digital Media & Creative Entrepreneurship

Students learned foundational filmmaking, developed short-film ideas, moved through production decisions, created work for an audience beyond the classroom, and marketed that work to the broader school community.

Evidence: Students experienced media as a product requiring an audience, message, positioning, branding, and promotional strategy.

5 • Genius Lab Youth Program • Chicago • 2025

Youth Entrepreneurship in Tech: App Development + Demo Day

Students in grades 5–8 explored how apps solve user problems, connected product ideas to entrepreneurship and customer thinking, used MIT App Inventor 2 for introductory development, and prepared Demo Day-style explanations.

Evidence: Coding was connected to customer needs, communication, ownership, and value creation—not taught as an isolated technical skill.

Lion Chasers Leadership Expansion

Students worked through Power & Self-Control, Self-Truth, Accountability, Vision, and Self-Talk/Affirmations across a multi-site summer model. Reflection, leadership discussion, affirmations, and future-oriented thinking were supported by structured pre/post measurement.

Evidence: Program measurement expanded through a 20-item pre/post survey scored on a 20–100 scale plus reflection questions.

Technology Integration Portfolio

Technology must lead to action.

Across the portfolio, technology is embedded inside the task. Students are expected to use tools to research, build, communicate, operate, market, measure, and make decisions.

Instructional Position on AI

AI should increase student capacity—not erase student thinking. Students should ask better questions, investigate information, compare options, make decisions, revise weak work, and explain why they chose a direction. The student still owns the judgment, communication, and final result.
